Chairman’s Corner
Happy New Year to all!
Everyone with Indy Honor Flight joins me in wishing a not-to-fond farewell to 2020 and bright hopes for 2021. It was a rough year, we have never been grounded before and we have had to adjust to many changes with our operations. We did NOT change one thing; we love and honor our Veterans! Our dedication and desire to honor everyone on our waiting list with their Honor Flight has not slipped, in spite of a global pandemic! We are watching the winds of change closely and we remain hopeful we will be able to fly in 2021.
Speaking of the pandemic, one of the best ways you can help is to be vaccinated. The State of Indiana is working hard to provide more vaccination sites and well over 240,000 Hoosiers over the age of 70 have registered for a vaccination at the time of this message! The shots are free and when I got mine I did not even feel the needle! Please consider getting a vaccination if at all possible. The following website is how you can choose where to go and when:
CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO ON HOW TO SIGN UP FOR THE COVID VACCINE
Click on the “click here to find a vaccination site and register” and it will show you the entire state of locations. Click on the locations closest to you. If you do not have a computer, call 211 from any phone and someone will be able to assist you. Please remember, the vaccine requires two doses and you do not have the best level of protection until two (2) weeks after your second dose. Indy Honor Flights’ medics and medical associates are strongly recommending our most at risk folks get the vaccine as soon as possible!
Our volunteers are taking advantage of this down time to update our records; if you have changed your phone number, address or other contact information, please call us or send an email so we can make sure your information is up-to-date! Our contact information is on our website 24/7 and is also shown below on this newsletter. Sadly, we are also hearing of some of our heroes passing. If you are aware of any of our Veterans reporting for duty above, please let us know so we can make the changes in our records. These types of notices are the only part of this mission we do not enjoy.
If anyone needs a speaker for a group or if any civic or volunteer organization would like to learn more about the Honor Flights, please let us know and we will be very happy to help! We love to tell our story and make more Hoosiers aware of our mission.
Remember there are three other Honor Flight Hubs in Indiana; Lafayette, Fort Wayne and Evansville all have terrific volunteers who do what we do! We always encourage Veterans to fly as close to their home as possible. The surrounding states also have hubs, there are about 125 Honor Flight Hubs across the country!
As we go through the winter months, please use caution on the slippery streets and sidewalks, we don’t want anyone to miss a flight due to a fall. We hope you all stay warm, stay healthy and you get a vaccine! We love you!
In service,
Dale True, IHF Chairman
